Date: 18 th June 2009
A hearing was about to start at the Huron County District Court in relation to the Caseville Public School teacher Deb Gleissner accused for supplying the smoking cessation medication chantix to a student but the accused pleaded no contest to the charge and as a consequence, her trial was annulled.
Further, according to sources, Deb Gleissner was accused of providing chantix to the student when he did not have a prescription for the same and Huron County District Court documents make it apparent that Deb Gleissner was called before the district court to answer specific charges on 25 th February. In the court hearing, Walter J. Salens was the trial lawyer of Deb Gleissner. When asked for comment, Deb Gleissner as well as Walter J. Salens refused to speak.
However, Caseville Public Schools Superintendent Tighe revealed that the accused teacher Deb Gleissner was sent off on paid administrative leave on 20 th March and further a letter written by Tighe to Gleissner stated that the administrative leave would end as soon as the case is resolved. Tighe wrote to Deb Gleissner that the allegation leveled against her was serious and if the accusation was true, it would seriously impact her employment and would trigger off great concern among most parents.
The sentencing of Deb Gleissner is likely to be held on 13 th July and it is probable that she would get upto 90 days` jail term and/or a fine of $500.
