Employees Are Provided Free Chantix To Quit Smoking

In order to make the campuses of St. Mary's Healthcare Center and Gettysburg Medical Center tobacco free, authorities at these healthcare centers have decided to supply their employees free doses of the quit smoking drug Chantix for a period of 12 weeks. The employees can obtain the Chantix pills only from the non chain pharmacies for the fact that the chain of stores like Walgreens, Kmart and Wal-Mart are not participating in the special program.
Elaborating on the issue, Debbie Brakke, vice president of Outcomes and Support at St. Mary's healthcare center pronounces that in spite of the authorities` attempts to free the premises of smoking, cigarette butts are always there inside the campus and as such it has become imperative to launch the new initiative to help employees quit smoking.
Steve Case, who is a pharmacist at St. Mary's makes it clear that since the anti-smoking drug effectively lowers the smokers` continuous craving for nicotine, it should be given to the workers for free. He also elaborates that the employees are also continuously educated on various programs to induce smoking cessation and expresses hope that this rare initiative would prove beneficial in the long run.
According to a disclosure by Debbie Brakke, it is known that the program under which free Chantix is offered to employees would last till 1 st March.
