Pfizer Incl. Launches Champix In India Despite Reports Of Serious Side-effects Triggered Off By The Drug

Champix, a definite version of Pfizer's quit smoking medicine Chantix is reportedly launched in India by the US-based drug manufacturer. It has also been revealed that Champix launch has taken place in India just one month after authorized drug agencies in the US have highlighted some of the disastrous champix (chantix) side-effects.
With regard to champix side-effects, it has been known that during last November, FDA(Food and Drugs Administration) reported Chantix side-effects for the first time and by 1 st February 2008, the drug authorizing agency registered about 491 cases involving suicide attempts, out of which in 37 cases, people committed suicides under the influence of Chantix.
However, Pfizer Ltd, Pfizer's Indian wing that has launched Chantix in India , clarifies that the smoking cessation medication Champix carries therapeutic values. Altogether, according to Pfizer's Indian unit champix side effects would be adequately informed to the consumers under appropriate labeling and as Champix is a prescription-based medication, it would be promoted by physicians only in India.
